Hi, I am Jiri and I am a tourist. At the moment I am touristing New Zealand but when I grow up I would like to be a traveler. This is a story of a traveling tourist, and a touristing traveler.
The cherry season in Cromwell is over. That means only one thing, the Working part of my Working Holiday visa is finished. As well as all working in 2017. The Holiday mode is on.
Winter is gone. Spring almost too. And as you are now correctly guessing, long expected summer time is finally on. It’s also the time to answer the calling of the South Island…
Today is a special day. Today, one year ago, I left my country for the journey of a lifetime.
We all came here for the same reason. We all came to New Zealand to look for the answers. The answers for the most important and at the same time the most neglected question in our lives. We shall feel lucky to have this question in the first place. Not everyone has a chance to choose. And still, it might be a pain to answer it aloud. What do you want to do in your life?
Over a hundred days passed since I arrived to New Zealand. After the tough beginnings and twelve weeks of working in Tauranga, I’m ready to explore the surroundings. Me, my car and camera. All of us worked hard to make this worth it. Not everyone survived. Let me take you for a roadtrip Around the North Island.
The plane was just about to land in Auckland when I woke up. I looked down and the landscape seemed like that The Lord of the Rings movie makers really didn’t use much special effects, if any at all. Only after passing all controls and getting out of the airport I realized it’s one of the happiest moments of my life. And things are upside down. It’s a spring day in November. Let me tell you something about my first days in Kiwi land. The land where the grass is greener, the sky bluer and landscape sceneries will awaken a new zeal inside of you.
